Does anyone have any tips on how to make just the scroll detail on a buttercream cake copper or bronze? I have a wedding cake to make in December and the bride has chosen a buttercream cake with what looks to be a stip on fondant around the bottom of each layer that is bronze in color and then it has copper/bronze scroll work and gold pearl details on the rest of the cake. I've read that I can brush on shimmer dust to fondant but what about buttercream? How should I apply the shimmer dust just to the scroll work without getting onto the buttercream? Also, I was considering using royal icing for the detail work. Any advice would be fantastic! I've attached a copy of the photo the bride gave me...

It can be done but you have to be very carefull and gentle with a paintbrush. Use a small one and mix luster dust with a little alcohol or clear vanilla and genly brush it on. Its time consuming though. Hope this helps.
