I notice that alot of people on this site are losing weight. I just want to know, how are you doing it & what program works for you? I want to lose about 15 pounds and was just curious. I have tried the yo yo diets and all that stuff. Please let me know. TIA
The best diet is no diet. Because when you stop the diet you gain back. You need to change few things that you do. Learn better eating habits, and move yourself. I gain weight when the money is tight, because all the bad stuff is cheaper. Now I'm starting to make a little money out of my cake business I can buy more fresh veggies and lean meat. That's it. and I try to walk more than I use the car...
HTH and good luck.
My advice would be similar to Pootchi's. Diets don't work, plain and simple. The best way to lose weight is to put more energy out than what you are consuming. Eat less and eat better food (from all the food groups) and exercise more. It takes work and dedication. It is not only a change to diet, it is a change in your lifestyle. I think that is why it is so hard for us to do. Good luck.
I take SlimQuick, a weight-loss suppliment found at Walmart - $23 for a 2 week supply. I lost about 20 lbs while on it (2 months), gained back 4 when I went back off, and holding steady at that for the last month. I stopped taking it when I hit a plateau, kept up with the walking and smaller portions, and just bought more. Your body will adjust to anything eventually, and it will stop working. I suggest mixing things up, but nothing radical, and it all depends on the changes you are willing to make, like the others said.
I've been doing Weight Watchers for a while, with varying degrees of success. I lost 22 lbs., then stayed steady all summer and now have put a few pounds back on (no fault of the program - totally me that I'm not following the plan). I find that having a baking/decorating habit is really difficult while trying to lose weight. I'm not one of those decorators who think "oh, I can't stand one more bite of frosting". Nope not me. I still lick spoons before they go into the sink! I keep thinking I should concentrate on working on my son's scrapbook more instead of baking for a while. But anyway, I completely agree with what everyone has said that is HAS to be a lifestyle change and not just a "diet" if it is going to work long term for anyone.
I use Spark People (www.sparkpeople.com). It's a free website with calorie and exercise trackers, menu ideas and support groups all on line.
I lost 15 pounds before my wedding earlier this year...have now gained back 5 of those (looking to lose them again). I was strictly counting calories and trying to increase protein and decrease my carbs.
This cake habit is part of the reason that I've gained back the weight...but I don't plan on stopping baking anytime soon.
Any food in moderation is okay as long as you watch what you eat and exercise (30 minutes +/day) you will lose weight.
I've also managed to control my weight with weight watchers. Although I haven't been a member in more than 10 years, I have the books and I pretty much maintain my weight using portion control. The one thing I love about WW is that nothing is off limits, you just have to plan what you eat and watch your portions and exercise. I also weigh myself weekly in order to keep a handle on those pounds that creep up.
I lost 25lbs this year. I cut out cokes, started drinking more water, started walking (wish I still was) and tried to eat better. I didn't give up everything at once, but worked in stages and was realistic about it.
Check out the thread Operation Motivation: Weight Loss (in the this section) for ideas, how other's have done it and a huge amount of support.
I agree with TexasSugar cokes are a no no. I am a coke addict and love them but inorder for me to lose weight I had to cut back big time. I still drink one or two but whos counting. Anyways I just recently lost 35 pounds after having my first child it took me almost a year but I did it and now I seem to not be able to stop. I buy in the 90's ground beef and I try to eat as much chicken as possible and I never eat the skin thats where the most fat is. I also try not to eat sweets once a week shouldnt be too bad. I know alot of people try to eat heatlhy all week long and then have one day where they can eat what they want and I have seen lots of people lose lots of weight. It seems to work and after awhile you will no longer need that one day to eat what you want. I also try not to use as much oil and I also buy 1 percent milk and light butter. I also buy white wheat bread because I dont like wheat bread but its much healthier for you. Really just tried to lighten the things I take in because I didnt want to cut out things I wanted or needed so if I could I just tried to buy light foods and cut back on my cokes.
I'm an incredibly picky eater and really don't eat that much, but have a weight problem. I found a site called Weight Loss for Idiots that has worked well for me (if I stick with it).
There is a ONE time fee, I think $35, and it gives you an 11 day menu. You get 4 meals a day and you only eat what is on the menu. They do not have to be eaten in the order listed for that day. The program lets you choose what you are willing to eat and then generates the plan for you. After 11 days, you can eat whatever you want, then print out a new menu. It even has a vegetarian menu plan (not for me!!!)
It's easy to follow, has some recipes, and can easily be added to the family meal plan by adding extras for them. I lost 10 pounds when I stuck with it in about 3 weeks. I felt better, had more energy, and didn't feel deprived.
Good luck.
Michele
