My DD had a slumber party for her 8th birthday last night...and I can't believe how great it was!! The invitations got out of hand and EVERYONE except one girl came, so I ended up with 11 girls last night! Luckily I had made arrangements for DH and DS to go visit Grandpa last night and I enlisted the help of one of my girlfriends. But still, I expected disaster with that many young girls spending the night.
It was great! They played outside (and I sprained my ankle playing freeze tag, wouldn't you know it!! icon_rolleyes.gif ) then we came in and they all decorated their own 6 inch cake. It was beautiful. "May I have the blue icing? Sure, here you go!" They were angels!!
We did manis and pedis then let them watch movies until they went to sleep. No fights, no hurt feelings and only two drinks spilled. Even my friend and I had a great time. I didn't think it was possible!! icon_lol.gifthumbs_up.gif

Impressive-- do you think this could be done with boys (without the manis, pedis, and sprained ankle)?

The one thing I've found with sleepovers is that ALL the kids can make it. I know a lot of parents use it as a "date night". So be sure to invite only the number of kids you actually want at the party.

In regards to a boy's sleepover, I hear they are even easier. There's not any fighting, it's just much more laid back. My friend never minds having sleepovers with her boys because it's so easy.

I did one for my DS turning 8 last year and we are planing another one for this year. I don't know that they are any easier tho... they certainly are LOUDER and ROUGHER lol I think it was the first time out for all of the kids and one did start crying and want to go home at the movie store cause there were 4 boys total and I set a limit at 3 movie rentals... the odd boy out got upset. We got him to stick it out tho. This year I am letting him invite 4 boys.

My house is the "hang out" house. EVERY wknd my 10 yr old has a sleepover with 5 girls. They always get along great and I have NEVER had a problem. This has gone on for two years now. It's funny as some of the girls show up after we have gone to sleep. I wake up in the morning and there are more girls. icon_lol.gif
