Thanks for looking at this post! I made a three tiered wedding cake that I have to deliver in about 1 hour and I don't know how to serve it!

I put a long dowel through all three tiers for stability. Now, how do I remove the top tier and serve the other two? Do I take the dowel out as soon as the cake is settled on the table or wait until cake cutting time? Do I just pull the whole thing straight out or do I leave it in and cut around it? If I leave it in, how do I take the top tier off?

Thanks for your quick responses!

Hello
I usually use my serving set and lift the top teir off the center dowel and place it in its box and then out of the way. I then do the same thing with the next teirs, setting them all off separatly. Then cut. If you cut with it assembled you run the risk of collapsing it with the added pressure of cutting. Whenever it is good for me to do so I usually remove the center dowel.
I always keep a large box under the cake table-this is were I put all my disposable items.--(Center dowel, cut dowels from in the cake, beads I am not reusing or flowers.) I also keep a smaller box for my items I am keeping. and a spare cake box for leftovers.

Leave it in, remove top cake, pull it out, disassemble rest of tiers, cut and serve.
