Hi,
Some time ago, at the request of sun33082, I had sketched out some templates for scroll-work practice.
Later Doug asked me to put them in the gallery, so that they would be more accessible. I did, and I have been surprised at how many people have been using them and thanking me for posting them.
I was wondering, whether it would be helpful if I could sketch out some more patterns/templates and post them... It's easy for me to sketch, and I now have a decent internet connection.
I was thinking about more stylised scrolls, leaves, tiaras maybe some henna patterns?
If you think these might be useful, please let me know. Also, please send me suggestions/links to what you would like me to sketch and upload.
Karen
Count me in....I have the last one you posted in my favorites, I could certainly use some more scrols, tiaras, whatever you can come up with, I'm sure there will be a lot of us that would appreciate it.
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this.
Have a Blessed Day
well, of course!
it's always great to have more help for the "scroll work challenged" such as I.
and it's doubly helpful to have ones inspired by other cultures and aesthetic viewpoints.
the henna ones sound very interesting.
I'd also be interested in ones based on the scroll work used to decorate buildings.
Doug, that's exactly what I was thinking about.
Yesterday, I was looking at pictures of vintage cast-iron work... balustrades/fences/grilles and thinking, "This would be lovely on a cake!"
Probably even the moulding /plaster-work could be used for inspiration.
I'll try and do some that are typical of Indian Art... ornate paisleys are very popular, even in henna work.
Omaida,
I'm definitely going to be doing some tiaras. My daughter wants a "Tiara cake" for her birthday next month, and we have just started planning.
Thanks for the support,
Karen
Karen, that's a very nice offer! I too would love to see some ornate paisely templates....thanks so much!!! ![]()
Oh PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!
Karen, I would love to see more templates - I have your scroll in my faves! I, too, am scrollwork challenged. Can't wait to see them!!! ![]()

I'll get started and then post an update in this thread once I have posted them in the galleries.

Yes, please, Karen!
I look forward to your new designs. I, too, am "Scroll work challenged" (Great phrase, Doug. Thank you!)
I think that the henna designs would be quite incredible on a cake - my mind is spinning with possibilities, but the pencil just won't co-operate!
Thank you for your generosity in sharing your talent and designs.
OK. I'm kind of embarassed to ask this. I've seen these templates on CC and have wondered exactly what to do with them. Do you trace them in RI and then transfer them to your cake? Or do the pin prick thing to get the template on your cake?

All of the above! The templates are there for ideas/shapes/designs, as some of us (me!
) don't have the skills necessary to freehand such beautiful shapes.
These are a few very simple henna patterns.
Just very basic. Henna itself is much more intricate, but that becomes too tedious to ice.
Don't use too many patterns at once, it looks too busy.
Select one or two and repeat to create your design.
When henna paste dries on the hand it is a deep dark brown.
When it is washed off, the skin gets dyed to a deep orange red, sometimes almost black.
Arabic henna patterns are darker and more bold than these. These are typical of Indian Henna.

Edited because I forgot to put the link in.
Anyway, they are in my photos.
