im doing my first wedding cake on november 10th... the theme of the wedding is spider webs and spiders basically.... once your in the spider web your stuck theme.. i guess????? anyways she wants a minature sample of what it will look like on monday......
i wanted to make the spider webs out of royal icing ahead of time and lay them on the 3 tier cake cascading them down with spider out of fondant or either gumpaste... one of the two.... my question is this would you make the webs out of royal or fondant.... i would really appreciate the feedback!!!!!!
My guess is that royal icing would be best. I have seen some great cakes with royal icing snowflakes that are piped on parchment or wax paper and then peeled off. You could probably use chocolate too. Maybe someone will respond that has made something similar...
I am thinking trouble with royal icing. Did you want to make the webs stand up on the sides or on top- hanging down on sides. I think they would break. Why not just pipe them on??
you may want to look into surgarveil --a flexible icing
I have never used it but it looks very interesting
this link will show you some webs on cakes

a 1 pd package is 15.00
I would use ri with some piping gel mixed in it just a ts or so. Keeps it from cracking and makes piping easier. Sugarveil would be perfect but the pen is expensive.
the picture on this link show you do not need the pen
