today is my SIL's B-day and since I wasn't doing anything today I thought I would make her a cake. I have never made roses before so I thought today would be a good day to try. well it is not as easy as it looks but I tried. I have a long way to go but I am gonna figure out how to do them. I think for one I need a bigger nail thing.
as for the leaves this was the first time doing them and they came out kinda funky too.
then after writing Happy Birthday on it I didn't like where I put it or how it looked so I went back over it and made it more chunky and that made it look even worse. oh well I tried. hopefully she will like it.

Wow! You've never done roses before? It sure doesn't look like it icon_biggrin.gif I wish mine looked that nice. And I'm sure she loved it, it's very cute!

Your roses look really good! It's hard to believe that it is your first time. I was too embarrassed about my first roses to even take pictures. You did good!!!!!

Your roses look just fine. I have done roses on a couple of occasions and mine still don't look nearly as good as yours. Good job!

Your roses are beautiful! Great job. One tip I have with the leaves is to not put too many. I find that 2 or 3 bring out the roses nicely without overcrowding. I'm sure she loved it!

Beautiful job, "especially" for a first time. Pat yourself on the back. icon_smile.gif

I've done roses for years, and I still can't get them right. I'm going to attempt fondant ones soon, so we'll see how badly that goes.. hehe

Again, great job!

thank you all for your kind words and I will keep that tip in mind about the leaves next time. I woke up this morning and just couldn't deal with the big chunky letters lol so I took them off and did it over.
It still isn't perfect but I think it looks better than before icon_lol.gif

Even although you have taken the "Happy birthday" off so many times, the colour has somehow blended and it still looks great!!

oh thank you icon_lol.gif I only took the happy birthday off this morning and since the color under the letters did set in a bit I sprayed the cake with the pink Color mist color food spray to help blend it all in so it wouldn't look too bad and then I added some more of the pink sparkle flake things to camouflage some of it.

Let us know the outcome / comments on the cake, will be interesting to hear what she has to say about the cake. Don't tell her all your "bad" moves or what you did to the cake, just give it to her as if you did it that way........

Wished my roses looked 1/2 as good as your first rose. The cake is fine and I am sure SIL will love it and appreciate the fact that you took time to bake and decorate her a B/day cake.

well we took the cake over to my husbands brothers house today and had a little bbq for her. she loved the cake. I knew she would. I could have left the ugly letters on and she would have still liked it. that is just how she is. so all was well. now I just have to practice more on roses and writing icon_lol.gif

Your cake was nice. And if I could muster the courage to use that brand-new shiney doll-cake pan like you did, then I could your doll cake in your photos for my inspiration!
