In browsing the galleries I am seeing these and I'm curious about what they are. Some are simple and many are more elaberate. They look like wedding cakes.

Those are cakes for 15 y-o girls. It's a tradition in the latino community. I have a friend that comes from Mexico and if she hadn't told me I wouldn't know either!

it's like a sweet 16, but Latin cultures celebrate 15 (quinceanera). It's a really big event for the girls

They are cakes done for a girl coming of the age of fifteen in the hispanic community. The celebrations are very simial to weddings as far as the cake, dresses, reception, etc. Some are very elaborate.

The Quinceanera is celebrated in Mexico for girls who turn 15. It is like the sweet sixteen in the US. Depending on your culture and customs is how you celebrate and the type of cake you have.

it is a 15th birthday party for girls. It is this big elaborate affair, that is just like a wedding. I guess it would be very similar to a debutante ball, it signifies the girls entrance into womanhood

It's a huge deal in Hispanic culture. They usually spend a ton of money and go as all out as possible for the girls 15th birthday. Beautiful cakes and yeah, they really do look a lot like really fancy wedding cakes.

I've never been to one but we did have one girl have her celebration at our church. They had a special ceremony and a nice reception with a special dance afterwards.

It's more than just a birthday party. It's a celebration of coming into womanhood. Very special!

The cakes I've seen have been like wedding cakes. Very nice!

Hi, just wanted to add, it's not only Mexico, it is MOST if not ALL of Latin America.
