I've attached a picture of a cake that I've been asked to do. It's for a wedding, and will need to feed around 250 people. Also, the kicker is, this cake will be delivered 3 1/2 hours away. So, please take that into consideration. I would like to ask everyone what you would charge if this were your order. I've already come up with my price quote, but I'd like to compare it to everyones idea of what they'd charge for this cake and a 3 1/2 hour delivery.

What are the tier sizes? How many layers per tier? Fondant covered? Fondant flowers or silk or other?

The bottom tier is 16x16x2 (two layers)

Next tier is 12x12x2 (two layers)

Next tier is 8x2 (two-three layers)

top is 6x2 (three layers)

All iced in buttercream and covered in fondant. Flowers are gumpaste, but could be subsituted for real...

Wow that is a beautiful and big cake. The way I charge is by person and fondant is 50% more. Flowers and designs of course are extra. Plus deposit on stands and delivery. This cake is easily $1000.00. I live in the Orlando area and I haven't had anyone complain on my prices yet. I know there is a first time for everything though. What price did you have in mind if you don't mind me asking? Can't wait to see pictures. Good luck!

I just did a search on wedding cakes the price I saw for a cake similar to the one you are making was$1,220 and that was to serve 220 people and for your miles I would charge$0.38per mile that is average I travel for my job and that is what I get and then you need to consider your time for travelling over there as well.I am not sure if this is helpful to you but I hope so ,good luck I am sure your cake will be stunning please post pics when it is done, can't wait to see it

Minimum $5 per serving because there's a lot of extra work and detail on that cake. I would charge for anything over an hour for delivery so that's basically a total of 5 extra hours. I would say that's easily worth $200. DO NOT undercharge for delivery. Think of the places that sell mattresses or furniture. Around here delivery charge is $45 within a 1/2 hour radius.

Thanks for all the quick responses. I am very happy with my pricing, I quoted $1100. That would include everything. I just wanted to make sure I was giving a reasonable quote, and according to the prices you guys have given me, I was right on the money...no pun intended!

To me, this is a customized cake, not something you can get at a local bakery. And to my knowledge, there isn't a bakery around here that will do this type of custom work. If you want a fantastic, beautiful, customized cake, then you allocate more money to your wedding cake budget. Just my thoughts....

Thanks again everyone!!! I really appreciate all the responses!

Happy Baking and Decorating!!!!

For the wife and I it would break down close to this.

$2.50 per serving (250) = $625
$100 for the custom handmade topper
$150 for the hand made flowers and decorations ( not that many flowers that I could see)
$.50 per serving for fondant (250) = $125
$65 delivery fee? I am assumeing 180 miles, our first 20 miles are free then it is $.40 mile after that.

Total would be close to $1065

Plus equipement deposits, but that is returned when we get our stuff back.

Pretty rough guesstimate since I cant see all of the details around the entire cake.
