Hi everyone. I want to make a cake with a stand up Christmas tree on it but I'm not sure how to do it. Do you make it out of Royal icing or could you just use a stiff buttercream?

you can use a stiff buttercream, and pipe around a icecream cone.

You could also stack cupcakes, carve them into a cone shape and dowel. Then ice. I have done this with great success!

I've saved a pic of a cake made by candyladyhelen. It's a tiered cake with a Christmas cake as the top tier. Great looking cake though the pic is blurred some. It might give you some ideas and you could pm her for help. It's a great looking cake!! It's in the Christmas album.

I did a cake with Christmas trees made out of gumpaste. Take a look in my pix. It's Blue and purple BC. The cake was a stacked construction with a large tree on top and smaller ones all around the sides. I rolled out the gumpaste and used X-mas tree cookie cutters. I got the instructions from one of the Wilton year books - I think it was an older book - maybe 2004? I loved doing this cake - even with the crazy colors. It was well received at my husbands office party. thumbs_up.gif
