Does a clear hardening glaze exist? I Need a shiny coat on top of fondant to give it a shine and some color.. what is the best thing to use for this?!

Can I ask what you are trying to achieve, then maybe we can give better suggestions!!!

It seems like a glaze would make the fondant too sticky. What about using luster dust or shimmer dust or something like that? Maybe someone else will know better about a glaze.

I am making a puffer fish for my sister's birthday. I wanted to mak eit look more real, and less cartoony. I don't have an airbrush, so I thought a shiny watercolor look would be good. I don't want it to sweat or melt the fondant, but I wasn't sure how to get this look...Should I just use buttercream?

You might try luster dust, or possibly do something with piping gel, Sorry I'm pretty much an amateur but Hopefully someone on her can help.

I know I've seen edible shellac spray on some of the cake decorating websites. Never used it, have no idea how shiny it'll make your puffer, but it would probably be a lot easier than a glaze.

Well the piping gel works wonderfully! It didn't turn out exactly how I planned, but pretty good anyhow! Thanks so much for the help and tips!

Yes... that is a loaf of bread behind the fish.. busy day, and forgot before the picture was taken!

Thanks! Last night when I finished my husband says.. that looks great... but how do you eat it? He says its good if it looks nice, but its only great if its easy to eat! icon_smile.gif I really liked the watercolor effect of the piping gel, it made the color pretty easy icon_smile.gif
