Not Decorate A Cake

i need to make a friend of mine 2 cakes for thanksgiving. One will have chocolate buttercream and one will have regular butter cream.. I need a texture or something for a non decorated cake.

do you have one of those plastic comb type things? you could use that around the sides. if you could find a very textured paper towel you could use that all over the cake. there used to be a paper towel with lots of raised dots on one side that makes a neat pattern on cakes, I'm not sure what brand it was

I was going to suggest the patterned paper towel too. I've seen generic brands in the grocery store with deep patterns.

what about taking the spatula and lifting the icing up to make spikes?

You can also use impression mats if you have them.

I agree, if you want it flat, I believe it is Bounty that has the quilt-like circles and dots and square-type pattern.

I would prefer whipped myself. It is, in my opinion, more visually interesting. Like clouds. YUM!

I have also let the BC crust, then done a "short stroke" with a butter knife lying flat on the cake. Kind of like you are trying to get rid of lines and creases. It is in my photos, it is the one with Eduardo blocking it.
