I would like to know the different ways that everyone does a stacked wedding cake. Do you wrap the boards top and bottom? I have seen people put coconut in between layers to help with sticking. Has anyone tried this? Does it help? Just wondering how yall do it!

Thanks

yes, wrap the boards to prevent them from getting soggy and warping.

I don't think many people use coconut anymore (a lot of people don't like it and allergies perhaps?) I think sometimes people put some powdered sugar between the layers. usually forget!

For stacked cakes, I place each cake on a cake circle. I don't wrap mine, only the ones that will get seen. I ice each cake and put the fondant if it will have it. Then I take a plate with trimmable pillars and center the plate on top of the cake. I gently push on the plate to leave marks where the pillars will go. You cakes should be completely level before doing this. Measure one pillar by pushing it into the cake, then cut all four pillars to the same height. I push the pillars onto the plate and push that into the cake. The plate should rest upon the cake top, but no weight should be on the cake. Parchment paper between the cake the the plate works really well to keep the icing from lifting with the plate. Then I decorate each tier, unless the design requires stacking before decorating. Each of my plates have a 1 1/2" hole in the center of each. After stacking, I pound a dowel through all three cakes. I prefer to decorate and transport the cakes unstacked, then assemble and border onsite.
