How do I use piping gel to make a transfer onto a buttercream cake? Do I flip it over immediately onto a cake or does it have to set up first? HELP

I don't think piping gel sets up very much, I would think you could do it right away or wait a little bit just to see if it will form a skin. good luck! icon_smile.gif

be sure to trace a reverse image of what you want on the cake. Trace with the piping gel ( I use wax paper), flip it over and place it on the cake. I trace over the design with a brush, so that the gel sticks to the cake. Lift up the paper and your design is ready to fill in with buttercream!

piping gel doesn't set, so when you're doing a piping gel transfer, pipe your image on parchment or waxed paper and then flip over and apply to your cake. You will likely have to go over the BACK of the design with a decorator brush to make the piping gel actually stick to the cake.

You read my mind and was trying to setup a question. I was on the site yesterday, doing a search on the same subject. I was looking at Dora pictures and many people said they did either a buttercream transfer or piping gel.
Thanks for posting

I actually had it set up once when it was really cold. It left a perfect imprint which I loved so now I put it into the freezer for it to harden up.

We actually did a transfer last night in Wilton I class and after piping gel onto wax paper we were able to immediately turn over on cake and then go over design lightly with a small brush.
