I would like to know the different ways that everyone does a stacked wedding cake. Do you wrap the boards top and bottom? I have seen people put coconut in between layers to help with sticking. Has anyone tried this? Does it help? Just wondering how yall do it!

Thanks

I don't do many stacked cakes, but when I do I like to wrap the cardboard separator boards top and bottom. I prefer to use a product called "cake jacks" instead of wood dowels, simply because I never trust the dowels being exactly the same length. I'd rather do tiered cakes over stacked cakes any day, simply because I think they are easier (and nicer looking) to serve.

I have used the coconut between layers in the past and it does help to get the layers apart. I too use cake jacks as they seem to work the best with even seperation. Good luck icon_smile.gif

Where do you find cake jacks?? I have never seen them. I live in a very rural area though.
Thanks for your help!

I always cover boards top and bottom so they won't pick up the grease and get soggy. I have the stress-free support system and I love it. My poor husband loves it even more! No more going out in the garage in winter to cut dowels for me.

I wrap the cardboard cake boards in white freezer paper then cut a slightly smaller piece of wax paper to go underneath it. Sometimes I tape the wax paper to the underside of the cardboard, sometimes not.

I personally never use coconut between the layers just because I don't like it and I feel that I'd need to tell people there is coconut on the cake and they may not like/want that.

darrhmomof3, there was a previous post about where to buy cake jacks so you could try typing it in the "search". I get them at my local craft store, but I know you can buy them on-line.
