Okay, I have to make a cake for a girls birthday at work tomorrow. I'm in Wilton class 3 and I was originally just planning on using the fondat bow cake because my class was supposed to be tonight. Well, my teacher had to cancel so now I have an 8" square cake iced white and no idea what to do with it.

I think argyle would be cute but I kinda need some idea how to get started. I've got white satin ice fondant that I can color for the diamonds or I can do buttercream. Which is better? Anyone that could share any techniques with me would be much appreciated!

I don't have any technique to share, I've never done a design like that. I would use fondant. You probably could do BC, just make the pattern using a toothpick on the BC and then outline. Sorry, not much help.

I just came across a post about quilting fondant. There are a few threads on how to do this. Go to search and type in quilting fondant. Maybe you could try that?

I use a combination of fondant and buttercream. Use the fondant to accent (making the diamond patteren) and the buttercream for the details.

Good Luck.
