I have asked this a couple times and can't seem to get an answer so I'm going to try a different forum. lol

How long and at what temp would you bake a cake in a 4 inch deep pan and would a flower nail be a good enough heating core for a pan this deep?? I don't want to pull the cake out and have a gooey center. Yuck! icon_wink.gif

Thanks. icon_smile.gif

For a three inch pan over 10 inches my teacher said to use a heating core so I would think that would be your best bet. The cake will cook however it will take a really long time. Hope this helps Jen

Veryone bakes differently with different times. All our oven are different. I bake in 3" pand and fill them 3/4 full.
All my cakes 10" under I use a flower nail. Everything bigger I use a core and strips.

I understand that oven temps and baking times vary, I was just trying to get an approximate. I guess I will just experiment with temps and length of time. Thanks though.

What size pan is it??

A core is a piece of metal shaped like a cone that is stuck in the middle of the pan into the batter. Helps distribute heat evenly.

Well, it's 11 3/4 x 9 5/16 x 4

It's in the oven now on 325 and I'm just keeping an eye on it and taking notes and will make adjustments as needed. I'm trying 2 flower nails as heating cores (spread an inch or 2 apart) because I do not have one or anywhere to buy one. I have a few days to experiment with this before I need to bake the actual cake. thumbs_up.gif
