Punkiin,
How did you like Toba's fondant?? I made some last week and used it on a cake and found it was quite sticky and unmanagable. Then I was going to use some to make some roses and it was just unusable. I had to throw it out. I don't think I did anything wrong making it. I didn't use the glucose. So tell me how you made out with it

do you mean you didn't use the glycerin? That's the optional ingredient. I would never make fondant without it. When I tried Toba's recipe I found that I needed about a pound more sugar than the recipe called for. Also, did you let it rest over night? That can make a huge difference with homemade fondant. I personally prefer Michele Fosters recipe, but Toba's was good, too.
That is so funny because when I use toba's recipe I use about a 1/2 pound less!!
Fondant's a crazy thing! I guess this is why so many people opt for the commercial brands. Homemade is a little unpredictable as anyone who spends any time in these forums will attest to. Even the commercial brands are not right for everyone. Some say such and such one's perfect, while others say its too this or too that. I think finding what works for each of us is a matter of experimentation and practice and experience.
I will have to try making Toba's again. I just gave up because I've tried about 3 different ones now. So I went and put an order at Global Sugar for Satin Ice fondant and gumpaste. I should be getting the order tomorrow. I will start right away making roses for a bridal shower that I am doing in a couple weeks.
