Does anyone have a yummy egg free cookie recipe I can use for decorated cookies? A little girl in my son's class has an egg allergy. Thanks in advance.

i have not found a cut out recipe yet, but I did find in my search that you can replace eggs with 2 tablespoons of corn starch and 2 tablespoons of liquid (oil, milk, or water) Has anyone ever tried this?

Here is a recipe I used for my crayon cookies. There is no egg in these. I'm sure you can use it for cookie cutters too.

1 cup softened butter, 2 teaspoons vanilla, 1/2 cup powdered sugar, 2 1/4 cups flour, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and black royal icing for writting.
Preheat oven 350 and grease cookie sheets. (i lined them with parchment paper) Beat butter & vanilla until fluffy. add sugar beat medium until blended. Combine flour & salt in bowl and gradually add to butter mixture. Divide dough into 10 equal sections. Reserve 1 section; cover & refrigerate remaining 9 sections color the reservered section the color you want . Cut it in 2 equal parts roll each section into 5-inch log. Pinch one end to resemble a crayon tip. Place cookies 2 inches apart on cookie sheet and repeat the same with the other sections that are in the fridge 1 at a time. bake 15 to 18 minutesor until lightly brown around the edges. Cool on rack then decorate with royal icing.

As a caution to the crayon cookie recipe...
the cookie part is egg-free but that's not always the case with RI.

I too am curious to know if this recipe holds up well for cookie cutters.

You don't have to use royal icing you can use 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips and 1 1/2 teaspoons shortening. Combine in a microwavable bowl and microwave on high 1 to 1 1/2 minutes or until smooth. The wilton chocolates will work too.

Just out of curiousity..have you spoken to the child's parents?! I'm asking because my children all have egg allergies BUT they can eat things that have eggs baked into them. I'm no scientist so I'm not sure why that is, but something to do with how baking breaks down the egg. Now, that doesn't hold true for all allergy suffers, so perhaps you could talk to the parent and see?! Maybe you won't need a special recipe?! The first time I gave my oldest son eggs (unknowing about the allergy) he ended up in the ER...broke out in hives, struggling to breath, turning blue...SCARY!! But give him cake or cookies with the eggs BAKED and no problem. Can't eat plain eggs, raw eggs, or cooked egs, only baked.

On another note...as a parent with children with food alleriges (dairy and peanuts in addition to the eggs), I think it's wonderful you are thinking of the child with the allergy! It's very hard to send your child to school and worrying about them eating the wrong thing so I'm sure this child's parents will greatly appreciate your effort!!

You can make royal icing without using any egg products. It is more glaze like, but still works. It is just powdered sugar, flavoring, and water until the right consistency. I have done that before. To answer about the egg thing I think it is any egg product, because they mentioned it during the orientation, to either bring in egg free products, or to let the mom know if you were bringing in treats with eggs so that she could make something without eggs in it for her daughter. I think I will try my normal recipe with the corn starch and the crayon recipe for rolling out. Then I can tell you how well both of them worked. =)
