How do you handle it when you go to set up the beautiful wedding cake that the bride has ordered and the mamazilla (sorry
I call her this because everything her daughter ordered or wanted she found someway of changing) of the bride has had a checkerboard table cloth put on the cake table? ![]()

. Thats exactly what happened to me this weekend. Everything was set. I was to deliver the cake and a table was to have a white table cloth. ![]()
No, I get to the reception site and they take me to where I am to set the cake up...."We have a table just for the cake", says the little man who leads the way...OK I walk in and all the tables are covered in white table clothes with fall flowers in the center. Beautiful...Then says the little man, "we set a table up to your left just for the cake"... ![]()

What do I see but this gaudy, big checked table cloth. Oh what do I do now? They do not have any more table clothes. Several of the ladies, including the one that has been appointed to sign for the cake tells me that they cannot believe that "mamazilla" wants the table set up that way. Ok so I get everything set up anyway. Do the best I can and guess what comes next. Mamazilla announces to me..."Oh I had a grooms cake made, it is a surprise and Brandy (the bride) doesnt even know about it, I didn't mean for you to put the wedding cake in the center of the table. Well thankfully I did not have to move the whole set up (4 tiers with crystal plates and pillars) but they did put the grooms cake to the side. I feel so bad, I hope all the brides to be that are potential customers do not think I had anything to do with that tablecloth!!! I think just for emergencies I am going to purchase a white rectangle, square and round table cloth for emergencies like this.
Never happened to me, but just think what her wedding pictures will look like. UGH-- Can you imagine what she is like as a mother. Can you say CONTROL FREAK? If I were you I think I would contact the bride after and let her know that you had expected to put you cake on a white tablecloth and was told to place it on the checkered one. She needs to know that you did not intend for it to be crowded with another cake as well.
Actually I am the control freak. Most of my brides have been really interested in what I thought. If it was ugly then I would say so. Someone once wanted a topper of dancing bride and groom on top of a whimsical cake and I said it would look terrible. She said she would leave it for me to decide. Well it was already decided that it would not go on the cake. It was way too big! The sisters were there to help pass judgement and they thought UGH why would she put that on there! As far as not having another tablecloth I am surprised-What kind of place was this?? I am sure they could have found one but just chose not too.
Also in another instance they had a ten foot round for the wedding cake--that is stupid! Not only is it too big but we decided on a five foot or smaller.
