Hi. I am new to decorating cakes. I am trying to figure out how to transfer and image on to my cake, so that I can decorate it with the star tip. Any ideas? Last time I made the image into a stencil, but this one is too complicated.

Hello and welcome to CC. There are alot of ways to get a pattern on a cake, you just need to find one you like. If you aren't set on filling in with the stars you can always try a Frozen Buttercream Transfer.

You can trace your image onto parchment paper and then outline the reverse side with piping gel...turn it over and lay the piping gel part on your cake, you will be left with a clear outline, just fill it in.

Some other options include:

Rice paper transfer:

Baking911.com has a number of options at:

Scroll down the page to the Transfer a design section.

This sounds kind of complicated. Will it work with bettercream icing? Is there an easier way? Trace on iced cake with a toothpick?

Thank you

You can print out your image and poke holes in it on the lines with a straight pin. This makes the back of the paper very rough. After you ice your cake smooth you can lay the paper down on the cake and lightly press over the lines. The rough back will leave a mark on the cake. After you remove the paper you should see your image on the icing.

For someone new you should really give the piping gel a try. If you don't have piping gel buy a small tube of the gel frosting at the grocery store and use it to pipe the outlines of the design. It is cheap and then all you have to do is fill in. I suggest after you get the initial design transferred you outline everything in a nice thin black piped line and then fill them in. Good luck and don't forget to post a pic!

Im new to this as well but I found a coloring book today for preschool children. It has farm and forest animals in it. Nice size and several different ones. I dont know how to post them here but if anyone needs any animals drop me a message and I'll email them to you if I have them. There is a turkey I think I will try for Thanksgiving.... thumbs_up.gif
