I have a horizontally striped gift bag cake to make. do you think it would be easier to cover the cake in BC and then do fondant stripes, or to cover the cake in fondant and add the stripes ontop. And if covering with fondant would you cut the appropriate sized sheets for all four sides out of fondant, let dry and then place like panels on each side of the cake. I noticed in a comment on a gift bag cake that the person actually let it dry and then placed it on the cake, but I wondered what would be easier and would hold up better.
Any suggestions? ![]()
((( I posted this in the "decorating" forum and have gotten no responses does anyone in here have any suggestions for me??? ))))
Thanks.
I haven't ever done a gift bag cake but it sounds to me like the easiest way to do it would be to make the sides first and let them dry. (Like an envelope cake, which I have done) Unless your sides are not standing up any higher than the top edge of the cake, then I guess it would be okay to just put the fondant right on to the cake. THen put your fondant stripes on after. This way you don't have to worry about messing up the buttercream while trying to get the stripes on.
would my non dry fondant than still stick to my dried fondant with water?
Thanks!
