I want to try some fondant flowers and/or figures(read VERY simple ones). I bought the Wilton flower cutters(the 3 pack daisy ones).

Do I need to buy gum paste or gum tex?

I usually use MMF--mainly for cookies--will it dry hard enough or do I have to add the additives to harden it?

Can you add the gum tex and still eat the fondant?

I have a day or two left on the HL 40off coupon so I thought I might as well use it if I HAVE to use gum tex.

Thanks so much!

I have made fondant figures without gumpaste. They don't dry as fast, that's all. I'm not sure about mmf, I used ready made for mine and mmf does tend to be softer.

you can use plain mmf and they will dry ... just takes longer. never have eaten any fondant/gumpaste after it dries (too sick of it by the time the cakes finished icon_wink.gif ) if you have some time I would just make the flowers without the gumpaste.

i make everything out of mmf. it just takes longer to dry. i tried mixing with gumtex and it really tastes nasty.

you can always do a 50/50 mix of fondant and gumpaste. gumpaste will dry faster and help with durabiltity of the figures.

I've used MMF for those same daisies (see my sloppy-icing cupcakes in my gallery) , and they dried fine. I made 75 of each size so I'm quite sure I started a week in advance. Just give them a few days and handle-with-care when they are dry. Best to dry on parchment paper.

However gum-tex is pretty cheap and if you have the coupon you might want to get it anyway just to use for future projects. The first time I used it on MMF figures I was sooo happy I did, they just dried so much better. But for simply daisy cutouts, you're fine without!

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think I will pick up some gum-tex since I have the coupon. I was thinking of doing some flowers for the October Festival for school and add some daisies and spruce the cc up. I will also do some cakes and cookies--gotta get those volunteer hours at school--lol

I still have a TON of royal icing drop flowers from the last project so everything will have flowers! lol
