I have a horizontally striped gift bag cake to make. do you think it would be easier to cover the cake in BC and then do fondant stripes, or to cover the cake in fondant and add the stripes ontop. And if covering with fondant would you cut the appropriate sized sheets for all four sides out of fondant, let dry and then place like panels on each side of the cake. I noticed in a comment on a gift bag cake that the person actually let it dry and then placed it on the cake, but I wondered what would be easier and would hold up better.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

I find horizontal stripes very difficult to keep straight when placing on a cake. Heck, I find vertical stripes difficult also! icon_smile.gif It might be easier to cut 4 panels for the gift bag to dry so they stand up without sagging. You could put the horizontal stripes on the panels while they are on a flat surface - gravity won't be working against you. Then when it's all dry, you can put it on the cake?
