I can't eat sugar, but my husband was getting mad because he was gaining all of the wait.
Friends always love getting practice cakes. I also send stuff to my husband's lab every so often.
That is also a great way to advertise yourself!

I am a newbie as well and I definitely understand wanting to try EVERYTHING!! I try to focus on practicing one skill at a time once I feel comfortable with whatever I'm working on...For example: I'm taking Wilton Class 2 now and we just finish colorflow. I went out last weekend and got materials to work with MMF. I figure that's the best way for me. My next project will be cookies.

The list of what I want to do now has grown almost daily. The ideas and pictures are inspiring. Amazing. I Thank God I don't like cake all that much. Decorating, yes, eating it, not really.

As many newbies, I am noticing my pants are a bit snug!! It's hard to resist sampling all of the new recipes, but I am finding that I don't crave sweets as much as I used to...I think the smell satisfies most of my craving. After a bite or 2 I'm done. I try out different techniques and send them out to my husband's work or to friends. My kids are in preschool and Kindergarten, so there's always some party to bring cupcakes/cookies to.

I'm new to decorating as well. I'm starting course 3 (Wilton) and I'm so excited about fondant. Just looking at the cakes on this website makes me want to try everything! There are a lot of beautiful cakes on here. I guess I can start practicing more and just send the cakes to work with my husband like one of you suggested (thanks). I'm dying to make cookies as well.
Good luck to everyone! Can't wait to see more new cake photos. Hopefully, I'll get more posted soon.

I am also a newbie, and finished Wilton 3 about a month or 2 ago. I really want to get my BC and fondant cake covering smooth and more professional looking. I figure practice makes perfect and I know I have a long way to go.

But as far as decorating over the BC/fondant goes I just finished my first figurine or basically a fairy without wings from the directions on this site. And I taught myself how to make stripes in fondant colors without pasting one color over another - at least on the top part (hehe).

This site is so inspirational, and a great learning tool to see what can be done but ultimately I want to experiment and create my own things.
