Edible Printer - Help Please!!!

Hey everyone - I have a canon i550 printer that I use to make my images. Everything has been working just fine and then all of the sudden my colors were not coming out right. So I took out the cartridges, clean the printhead, even replaced the cartridges with new ones and now I have gotten the colors to come out except for the magenta color, nothing is printing for it at all. I have done a test page and the others are printing out now and that one (the magenta was kind of weak) is not printing a thing at all. Does anyone have a suggestion for me? Please? I have so many that I have to do for this weekend. thanks
I have been doing edible transfers for over 6 years on Canon printers. The Kopykake site has a very well overall description on how to cleam the pint head with a steamer, which you can either pruchase from them or find one in your local stores. If you go to http://www.kopykake.com/pc_faqs.html#2-2 it will tell you what to do when you get the type stubborn clog that you are referring to. If that does not work, you may need to get a new print head to replace your current printer. My suggestion, though, is one I found to be the best solution: print the sheet off the Kopykake site that lists the "Printer/Edible Ink Tank Cross Reference" and then either watch your local computer printer sales columns in your area newspaper or go scout out the local garage sales. I was lucky enough to find a never used older model Canon last weekend for $15.00. It works like a champ! The cost for that printer is cheaper than purchasing a new print head for your current printer or for getting a repair from a Canon approved repair place to fix you current model. It never hurts to have a backup printer if you are in the business of selling edible transfers, which I do custom made for customers that come to me.
Good luck. Let me know how you do.
Just make sure your used model never ever ran ink through it, as this model would not be able to be used as an edible printer due to the toxicity left behind in the heads from the ink residue. You can find fairly newer "older" models of discontinued printers online. That is what I did. I found a great older model which usually sold for around 300.00 for about 85.00!
well, after having my printhead soaking in soapy hot water for almost 6 hours (I actually forgot about it) and going out and buying a new printer, the Epson cx6000 (my supplier said that was one of the new ones out there people are using) I was unable to get the NEW printer to run a picture without heavy streaking and then pretty much had a nervous breakdown and cried like a baby haha. I went back to the printhead that I found in the water and blew the heck out of it with scalding hot water and put it back in and it worked. so then I printed as fast as I could to get the pictures that I needed for this weekend done. So now, I am determined, I have to get this new one working, I have done a printhead cleanup and it is still streaking, just not sure what to do because this is a brand new printer so the head should not be clogged. My supplier said to call kopykake and maybe they could give me some pointers. If anyone has something else I should do please feel free to share. Thanks
I freaked out the first time my epson printer did that. It was the first time i used it...then i realized because it was a brand new machine, it wasnt the "ink" streaking, it was the rubber on the tires that grab the paper, residue was being left behind. I ran a few blank hseets through the system and its run perfect ever since.
