Anyone ever try it? I always heard it is great, a friend of mine was going to the dominican republic and I asked her to bring me some.

Well it is true, it is great. She brought me 2 large bottles dark and clear, and she says it only cost her about $12 US dollars. The consistency if very thick, and the smell is just powerful! when I open the cabinet I keep it in, the smell of vanilla just hits you and my kids tells me the kitchen smell wonderful. it is so thick that if the recipe call for 2 tsp, you can put half a tsp, and ever since I started using it everyone tells me the cakes are delicious.

Now I am always looking out for anyone going to the Dominican Republic to order more.

Sounds wonderful. I wonder if you can buy it here in the states, like from Penzeys spices, or somewhere. I'll have to check into it.

Ilka,
I also went to the local Dominican neighboorhood here in Miami, and found what they claim is the real deal, it is not as thick as the one I got from my friend, but it is better than the one in our local supermarkets like Publix and Win Dixie.

The brand name in the bottles my friend brought me is "Primera".
