Can someone please tell me how you float/fly objects. To me it looks likes maybe fondant figures with some sort of wire. Not sure at all.

Thank you all in advance.

That is right. Fondant cut outs on floral wire. I put a straw on the cake, and all the wires in the straw. Some people cover the part that goes on to the cake with chocolate but I haven't try that.
Hope this helps. icon_smile.gif

Is it just normal floral wire or is there a certain guage you use. Really thick, thin, etc.

Sorry to be a pain but I am completely clueless.

I am not sure there is a standard, but I tried several different gagues until I found the one that was strong enough. Just remember when you are shopping for wire- the higher the number, the thinner it is. I got away with using 18 gague.

Someone mentions coating the wires with chocolate too! I need to try that!

I used gumpaste instead of fondant since it will not be eaten. I attach it to the wire with egg white and let it dry. I use the hollow floral spikes with royal icing in it to put into the cake. (That's how I did the bats in my Halloween cake in my gallery)

So CakesBySandy,

You did not insert the wire into the figure, you essentially glued it to the back using egg whites?

Wow, you gals/guys are the best. Learning by the minute.

No, I did not stick it into the figure. I bent the top of the wire in a 90 degree angle so the wire was long ways across the back of the bat. It worked just fine. Now I have cut out two of the same figure and put the wire in between both and used the egg white as glue.
