I have a friend who want me to bake some cakes for her so that she can decorate them and sell them. She tells me that she does not like to bake. she only likes the decorating part. should I and how much should I charge her? ![]()
Do you also decorate?
If you decorate then I wouldn't. If you don't, it wouldn't hurt to make a few bucks.
I see it as if she has a problem when all said and done, is she taking full responsibility for the cake. If it is a little dry? If she places the wrong filling. Or if she outflat screws up the order. It it then her cake or yours?
Does she take full credit good or bad? Am I making any sense?
Just my own opinion.
Lu
I wouldn't. She is going to get all the credit. If she really wants to make money, she needs to do her own projects IMHO. The only exception would be is if you guys want to be business partners and go into a business venture together. Otherwise I would not do this. Sounds like she wants to make money by doing just the fun part.
I personally do not enjoy the baking process either but its part of the job!
Id tell her to throw a boxed mix in the oven. Simpelest way to do it and that way she can take full credit for the cake. I just see a bunch of what ifs with this situation i wouldn't do it. But that's just me.
First of all does your friend do alot of decorating? And second does dhe expect you to make anything except white, yellow, chocolate or marble? I think if she does adk you do bake and fill and just plain do everything except the icing, etc. She will be making some good money and not tell who actualy made the delicous cake. Personnaly I would not do it, cause I have enough to do to keep my client's happy and get their cakes uot on time. If you decide to do this I think you should charge her just like anyone else, cost of ingredieant's times3 and the amount you want for the hours you put into them, and delivery if she doesn't come pick them up. Sorry to sound like such a grump but I used to do nice things like that for friend's and they didn't need me anymore I never heard another word from them, and that really hurts slot. So think very carefully about doing this.
I think you could do it - I mean someone does that for all the grocery stores.... but if you want to make a business selling your cakes WITH YOUR decoratijg skills.... then I wouldn't..... if it's going to be a type of business partnership - then sure, why not? Otherwise - she should look into buying the cakes wholesale or something - or just getting some unfrosted cakes from the grocery store and decorating them.......... good luck with whatever you decide.
Thank you Lu
Yes you make sense and yes I also decorate see my photos. I think that her problem is that she only knows how to make one recipe.
Then that is all the more reason that she should do her own baking. Show her how to get on CC. Show her the recipe section. Then show her how to turn on the oven! lol. She'll learn like we all did. Hit or miss. That is the fun of this whole journey we all are on.
Lu
Thank you to all for your help. This is why I love C.C.
I would not do the cakes for her. I know for me it is hard to find time to do my own baking let alone someone elses. Also, a few weeks ago I did not have time to bake some cupcakes someone was wanting for that afternoon and I was at work, so I went to SAMS and bought them undecorated. They still charged me the same as if they were finished.
I had a friend last week ask me for my icing recipe so she could make cupcakes for her daughters party. I was a little upset knowing that she knows I do this as a business. I gave her a recipe but not mine.
By the way, do you make you cakes from scratch?
Yes I do cake from scratch and when I get a customer that wants to pay less money I do a box cake.
