What Kind Of Cake Under Fondant Is Best?

I'm a newbie here.
I am making a fondant cake for Saturday, I heard that using a devils food cake is too soft to use under fondant, is this true?
If so, will the extender recipe #2 help that at all, or what kind of chocolate cake is best.
Thanks so much
Jennifer
It helps to have a dense cake when you are using fondant. Too moist a cake may cause the cake to fall some with the weight of the fondant. A pound cake works well. There is a recipe that I saw where someone added the pound cake mix with the regular cake mix to achieve a denser cake. The recipe with the extender has worked for me when using fondant, but I did not have real large tiers, 12, 10 and 8. If you are stacking the cakes just make sure to dowel rod sufficiently to help the weight of the cake.
