Cake Boards And How Many?

I am making a cake that will be a two layer 6x2 inch cake on a two layer 10 x 2 inch cake. I was thinking about buying two round cake boards and gluing them together for extra support. Will that work ? Thanks Jen

I would use at least 2 for your cake. I've started using 3 boards taped together for my 1/4 sheet cakes (2 layers) for the extra support.

When you glue or tape them together, be sure to have the grain of the cardboard of the bottom board perpendicular to the second. It will give you added strength.

I usually use 3 boards for the base, or foam core. You probably don't need three for the 6 in though.

Also, if you happen to have someone who can cut you some boards from plywood, that would be great as well! My H cut a lot of different sizes for me, after the first time I cracked a cake due to lack of supporticon_smile.gif Now if I do a large heavy cake, I always use those (I always make a point of reminding the person I will need it back), but for smaller ones I just use cardboard, one or two at a time.
