Canadian Cake-Red And White Help Please!

I need to make a Canadian Themed Cake for a international party at the beginning of December.
I was planning on a 2 tiered cake (5" and 8"). The plan is to cover the 8" in white fondant and the 6" in red fondant and add maple leaf fondant accents in the alternating colours for each layer.
Will one tier of white/one tier of red look okay together? Should the larger layer be red?
The other option is to cover both layers in white and make the top look like the Canadian flag with red fondant and add the fondant accents to the bottom tier.
Which option sounds/would look better? Unfortunately I don't have time/$ to make practice cakes ahead of time.
I've never worked with fondant before, so I'm trying to keep this as simple as possible.
Thanks for your help! ![]()
Yes, I think you should definitely make both layers in white, with red fondant maple leaves as accents. Please post pics when you're done. Good luck!
I think if you make both tiers white and for the bottom one, put vertical red stripes around the cake sort of symbolizing the side of our flag and for the next tier up, do maple leafs in red..all accents in fondant...not sure what you could do for a topper...
Just a note for making red fondant: I coloured some red fondant last night with the Wilton no-taste red and Christmas red combined...when I went to bed it still looked coralish but when I woke up this morning, it was pretty red..so try and colour your fondant ahead of time...
Mounties, the beaver, and hockey are some of our most noted symbols...
Hope that helps!
