Hi everyone,
I just got an order for a 3D dumptruck cake.
How?

and HELLPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just did a 3D dump truck recently.( in my gallery) I used the instructions in the Wilton Fondant yearbook. The only thing I would suggest is to measure the pieces of foam ( or whatever you use) that's used to raise the cake up for the wheels rather than eyeballing it like I did because mine came out too big and stuck out too much.

I made mine using two 8" square pans and 6 cupcakes for the wheels. Stack the two cakes with icing in the middle, and cut off about a quarter off the edge. Put that piece at the front to be the cab. Any trimmings can be moved around and used for the top of the cab and the sides of the "container/dump part". Sorry - don't know what it's called! The container part doesn't need to be completely hollowed out - in fact, don't scoop out any cake from that area, as you'll need it to be as stable as possible. To do any patching jobs, mix some of the crumbs with some icing and you can mold and fix with that. Cut out the wheel wells. Find something to put the cake on to raise it from the board. (I should have used something black, rather than foil)
Do a thin crumb coating with the buttercream, and cover with the fondant.
Then add the wheels and accents, and fill the back with M&M's. I used royal icing for the windows, but should definitely have used fondant. The trouble was, I forgot to leave a little aside when I coloured it all!
Hope this helps!
Good luck!
