Hi just finished making a few trial of my 4" mini cakes I just tried guessing the amount of batter in the pan I used a recipe with whole milk so my little cakes have no hump at all BUT they are only 1 1/2" tall they seem a little short and I didn't want to fill them are they supposed to be taller? if so I guess I better fill them. I plan on icing them frozen to see if they are easier to ice should I cut it into layers if needed before or once frozen? thanks sorry so many questions

I always overfill my little pans so that it bulges over the top a little. It is very easy to run a knife along the edge of the cake pan and trim the cake that way before you turn it out to cool. Mine are always 2 inches that way. They are too small to fill as far as I am concerned.

i think for pans that small it is best to fill them more than you would others, b/c the shorter baking time allows for less rising. i would say 2" is a good height as well...
