I am making my son's wedding cake for this weekend...I baked a 6",8",
10" and 12" round pound cake. I know that I need to use dowels but do I put each cake on a board and how do I transport it. I will only have to drive about 3 miles across town. The weather will be alot cooler than it has been..only about 80(buttercream icing)...I need instructions please. This is my first wedding cake, all white, very simple!!! Thanks

I usually stack the bottom two tiers and completely finish them before transporting. but I complete the stacking and the decorating (borders, etc) once I get on location. seems to work ok for me. Good Luck!!

I would put each layer on cardboard and dowel each one. You will have so much more peace of mind if you know they are supported adequately. I usually put 6 each in a 12" & 10" and 4 each in an 8" & 6". I've even read that you should have as many as one dowel per inch, i.e. an 8" cake should have 8 dowels. I've never done that many, it sounds like an awful lot. HTH

I would transport indivually and stack when you get there... a lot less stress, just make sure you bring everything you need to the venue..

I'd feel uneasy transporting a four-tier cake. I would probably stack the bottom two and the top two, then assemble on-site. It is best to transport a cold cake, too. Much more stable!

I do it the same way.

I like to use plastic dowels and cookie sticks (much easier to cut).

Ditto!!! I never transport preassembled. I like to assemble on site then take pics. CYOB
