Not sure which one you bought, but I have the big wilton leveler and I don't have any problems with mine. The little one with the wire, now that one is a pain in my butt!

I have both Wilton levelers; they work - sometimes better than others!

Here's a different method:

Yep I bought the little one with the wire. Sometimes I would have to start a cut with a knife for it. Then I bought the large one with the blade. I like that one it gets the job done.

i had the same problem with mine... you have to watch to make sure that the outside of your cake doesn't get too crusty, otherwise it has a hard time breaking through the crust on both sides.
the things that i have found that help is to use a back and forth sawing motion and also to turn the cake as you go.
HTH.

Yep its the little dinky wire one! I'll have to invest in the bigger one with the blade i guess. My cake always seems to crust around the edges.

Do not bother with the bigger one with the bigger blade. The blade is not stable and you'll never get a good cut. I hate the darn thing.

If you can save up the money for the Agbay Leveler, it's SO worth it.
