Hi!
I am doing a cake with colored pearls. To save time, I purchased the hard ones from the cake store. I thought all I had to do was put them in a baggy w/ luster dust and shake, but the color doesn't seem to "stick".
Is there a trick that I am missing? (they are flat white now and I need them both brownish and tan.)
Thanks!

I actually paint mine with a mixture of luster dust and vodka.. its a little time consuming but it works..

What about misting the peals with some alcohol before putting them in the bag, that should give the dust something to cling onto.

i color mine by putting the dust in a very small tray (it's like one ince in diameter), then i put a few of the pearls in teh tray, and use my finger to roll them around in the dust. I think the oil from my finger helps the dust to stick

I put all of mine in a large bowl, sprinkle in the dust and add a small amount vodka or everclear. Gently roll them around until they are the desired color. Just be sure to use vodka or something with a high alcohol content. HTH

Thanks everyone! I ended up putting them in a bowl, put in some everclear, then dumped a bunch of dust on and swished them around. The cake turned out great! Fell free to look at it as I have now posted pics in my gallery!
