I have to do the cat in this pictue - I know, I know....I'm nuts!!

Anyway with some help of people on here, I've already figured out structurally how I'm going to do it. My dilemma now is can I paint on fondant?? Rather than putting each section on individually, can I just cover the whole cat in white fondant and paint on each section? The little accents like the stars, triangles, etc, I'm going to cut out of fondant and place on, but I'd like to paint (I don't have an airbrush system - so thought I'd use the good ol' paint brush method) each section individually.

Any thoughts?? If so, what type of color do I use?? I currently only use Wilton colors.

Thanks all you cake experts out there - I don't know what I'd do without you!

I love that cat!!!

You can totally paint on fondant - to make it easier on yourself, i would make some black royal icing and draw the outlines first and then paint away - that way it will not all bleed together. You can use the wilton and just add a very small amount of either lemon extract or vodka. Very little, that way the colors dont look runny like watercolors. Hope that helps. icon_smile.gif Post when you are done, I would love to see it!

Can you tell me how you plan on making the cake..structurally. I am making a pony cake next week and wanted it to stand like this but am unsure how.
I can't wait to see your finished cake!!!

Thanks so much, definitely a good idea outlining in royal icing first.

As for the structure, I can't take all the credit, actually someone on here posted a pictur of what I should do to make the body. I wonder if I can copy and paste the message in here.

First I'll try to explain: I'm going to use dowels for the legs, and on top of all 4 dowels I'm going to put a small piece of what I don't know - probably some kind of thin covered wood, on top of all 4 dowels. The legs I'm going to cover in rice crispy treat. Then to cheat for the belly, I'm going to take a piece of styrofoam and attach it to the wood, cover it with icing and fondant.

To have the head stand up, from the front of the board, I'm going to have 4 smaller dowels and board to support the head. For the tail, from the back probably some kind of bendable pipe covered in rice crispy treat and icing and fondant as well.

I'll try to copy and paste the picutre that someone sent to me, it's much easier seen than described!!!

My only advice is to buy a new very soft artist brush. The little throw away ones wilton makes paint streaky and blochy.
