I will be using hidden pillars on an upcoming cake. 3 teirs with a 2 in gap for flowers. Do I have to use separator plates with the hidden pillars? Could I just use cardboard rounds? I always have trouble getting the separator plates back and wanted to go with out them if I could.

I would use separator plates. They are so much more stable than the cardboard rounds alone. You could ask for a deposit on the plates in case they are not returned.

Separator plates are more stable, can't imagine just using card boards alone, just get a replacement deposit thumbs_up.gif .

I say use the plates. When I am doing a tiered cake and need to use plastic ware to complete the design.. I charge the customer for the plates, pillars etc. No worries about getting them back. (Most places in my area will just toss that stuff anyway, and its hard to get someone to remember to save it for me.)

Hi,
I bought the hidden pillars but now it can't fit in my 12 inch seperator plate. What plate do you use for these pillars?

What kind of plate do you have that won't fit in these pillars? The Wilton plates will fit ok, I'm sure.

On a D&R (Drop & Run) cake, unless I make arrangements to pick up my plates the next day, I just plan on them being tossed. They are only in the $3 range each and it's not worth the gas or the hassle to worry about getting them back. I consider anything under $10 "disposable".

For some reason I thought that the hidden pillars should fit into the separator plate just like the push in pillars.
