I have a unique situation. I have always been intrigued with cake decorating, and have collected most everything that I need to start a cake decorating bussiness. My family has a farm, complete with a liscensed kitchen in my home. We currently sell cookies and coffee cakes at local farmers markets. But I am wanting to get into decorated cakes. I know that I need tons of practice, but what else do I need to get my name out there?

Start by selling some decorated cakes at the Farmers Market. Practice your skills and build up a portfolio that you could display on the table along with some business cards.

I suggest donating cakes to local schools and events (fundraisers and such). Always include a card with your products.

You can sometimes purchase ad space in a pta newsletter.

Anoter form of cheap advertising is to contact your local MOMS club (international site found online) and advertise in their newsletter. It is about 10-20 for 6 months and they always need party cakes.

good luck
