A mom from my sons class ordered a cupcake cake with Lightning McQueen on top. Problem is I have never done a cupcake cake or have I ever done a FBCT. Lightning seems pretty detailed (maybe im just nervous) I was wondering if it would be ok to do it this way or if there is any advice on how I should go about it....

She wants 20 cupcakes(half choco half vanilla) She also mentioned in the shape of the car so I will try my best to do that too... Any tips would be so great. Ill be making it Thursday night.

I charged $20.00 is that reasonable for something like this?

Sorry it was so long and thank you so much !!

You did not charge nearly enough...just my opinion!

FBCTs are simple, but time consuming, especially when they are as detailed as Lightning. Mix all your colors and do the FBCT early-you can even do it a day or two or three ahead, just keep it in the freezer. The way I do them is to reverse image my photo and tape it down to a small cookie sheet that fits in my freezer perfectly. I then tape wax paper over that. THEN, I outline all in black or dark color, then fill in small details, then large. I give it a minute to crust (these work best with crusting buttercream) and then I carefully flatten it out.

You can arrange your cupcakes on the board in the car shape, dabbing a small amount of buttercream on the bottom of each liner to keep them in place. Then just frost over the entire thing like it's a cake. Pretend you are making a nice even layer on a cake instead of trying to frost each one individually. Try to do this without making your icing an inch thick! After you are done with that part, flip your FBCT on top-done!

You can do it!! thumbs_up.gif

definatly did not charge enough, (easy for me to say I think that is what I carged too, lol) The only advice I would add is to lay a cutting board or some other heavy flat object on the tops of the cupcakes after you take them out of the oven but before they cool. This makes them have a nice flat top so you don't get too much icing.
Good luck and be sure to post pics.
