Ok, so i've been working on my first castle cake for 3 hours, and i just had to put it away for the night.....First off, i think i am insane for even attempting a castle cake since i am SO NEW to cake decorating, but i so desperatly want this cake for my daughter's birthday, i had to do a trial run.....I could have picked a better night.....My parents and my brother (and 3 nephews) are coming over for an early thanksgiving tomarrow!! Anyhow, the cake is definatly time consuming but not as difficult as i expected....i ran into a few snags and learned some things along the way. No matter what it's just a trial run so i shouldn't get so stressed about it! I hope it turns out decent enough for me to post a pic!! icon_smile.gif

No matter how new you are trial and error is the best teacher.

I am sure you will do fine and if you do make mistakes that will teach you what to do different on the next one.

Can't wait to see pics.

JeSpooky:

We've all been there at some time or another! I've spent many hours myself wondering, "WHAT am I DOING?? Am I CRAZY?!"

Your cake is going to be great. And--when you've FINALLY collapsed into bed TOMORROW night, you'll have a "happy cake smile" on your face!

JeSpooky thanks for the comment on my cake. That was the one I just thought I was crazy for trying. I had never carved and it was for my moms boss. The boss is my uncle and the owner of that company so there was a lot of stress in making it but when he called me from his office and told me that it was the most wonderful thing he had ever seen and tasted that made it all worth it.

I saw every flaw and you will too with you daughters cake but you know what. She won't. It will be the best thing in the world. Try not to stress over it. She will love whatever you do for her.

I can commisserate with you... I too think I am insane! It is 1:15 am here on the east coast, and I just put my very first castle cake away in the fridge for the night. And better yet, I logged on to CC! Good Luck to you on finishing your cake, and I'm sure your daughter will love it!

Youve joined the club Im afraid! I spin out all the time. Post here at CC. everyone talks me down (and around) and Im fine again. Till the next cake.

Everyone is right though, nobody sees what we do, and your daughter will love it no matter what. You are creating a memory that she will remember when she is a Mum herself!

Good luck, deep breaths we are all with you
