Am I wrong to be upset?
I am doing a wedding cake Saturday afternoon.
So today I'm prebaking. Took me all day and I'm tired.
Here's the scoop.
A dear sweet friend from church is finally getting married. He is so nice, many times he gave the keys to his house with assorted church members for the mid week Bible study.
He would go out of town, but so generously said "Use my house. You are welcome to anything there." What a guy!
So when I heard he was getting married I offered to do his cake.
I only do it for a hobby, so I told his intended if she would pay for the ingredients, I would give the labor for free.
Well.....She brings me a list of 6 flavors she wanted.
3 for the OSU groom's cake and 3 for the wedding cake!
Am I wrong to think, "Of all the gall!!!!"
or is it normal to ask for 6 different flavors?

In my very limited experience, it is not normal... and you have every right to be upset! I'm kind of under the impression that she is taking advange of your generosity... I'm sorry you are going through this, maybe if you call them and tell them you can only make 1 flavor for each cake?? I really don't know what you say but (((hugs)))!!!

When I'm selling cakes I don't have a problem with 6 flavors in 6 tiers (and I don't charge extra) ... maybe she doesn't realize that this is different than that type of transaction?

Let her know that 6 flavors is going to cost her! To do that many flavors, she's going to have to buy extra of everything and there will be a lot of wasted batter, etc.
Give her an inflated cost for the 6 flavors, then cost for the basic two, one per cake. She's taking advantage of a good gesture. Nip it in the bud.
This happened to me before, and never again!
What is it Duff says? If it's free, it's my design, if it's your design, you pay. It should apply to more than one flavor per cake, too.
