For anyone that has done a square wedding cake, what size pans do you use say if you were to do a 4 layer stacked cake? I was wondering if 16", 12", 10", 8"??
that would work, depends on how many servings you are looking for
My smallest is usually a 6"... then 8, 10, 12 or 10, 14, 18 depending upon how many servings they need and how much room I need between layers for decorations.
How many people do you need to serve?
Also, Not that it is bad, it all depends on your design, but most people try to keep a consitent difference between the tiers. For instance you have 8-10-12 which is a 2" difference between the tiers, then you have a 16 under the 12 which is a 4 inch difference. I have seen it like this and it looks good, it just depends on what design and location you have to set it up.
The only time a 2" tier difference would not work is if you're doing offset tiers (rotated 45 degrees). For that you need at least 4" otherwise the corners will overhang. Not that I'm any big expert. The one stacked square I actually liked in my photos was a 6-10-14 (the only square pans I currently own!)
Well the wedding will be atleast 250 people and they are doing the food stations at the reception. The cake will be all different flavors so I am thinking people might try different kinds so I am making a lot of cake. I own a 16",12", 10",8" Square pans. I have found if you use anything smaller than a 6" the cake is hard to frost so I really don't want to go down to a 4", plus the topper will not fit on a 4".
