I am making a spongebob cake and I crumb coated and covered in bc, the problem is that you don't see the impression of the face any more. Do you just look at the px and guess where everything is or is there another way? Help!!!

I pretty much just look at the pic but you could trace the pic onto a piece of paper and then cut out the pieces and lay them on the cake to see where they go.

I only crumb coat, no second layer of BC.

The details are not too clear but between what's visible and the picture you can get close.

That's correct. You usually don't see much of the impression in the cake anyway. Follow the picture and use a little more icing or a second layer (if doing stars) where portions of Bob are raised. You might want to first outline with a tip 3 and then fill it in. Sometimes I have the do the outline once again to make the picture look more clear. After you have done several character pans, you will probably see that you really don't need to buy the special pan. You can carve out the shapes fairly easy and just follow a picture. Good luck!

Since you have already iced it, let the icing crust. Then carefully slide the pan back over the cake and press lightly to get the impression into the icing. Some of the icing may stick, but you can smooth that back over once you get the face done. icon_smile.gif

I've never crumb coated a character pan cake. I don't think the instructions ever say to and the whole things is covered with stars pretty much anyway.

I don't crumb coat either, just outline and cover in stars.
