I am all out of choc cake mix, and don't want to go shopping!
......but I do have Betty C french vanilla cake mix - I was considering adding a couple of squares of melted unsweetened chocolate to the batter - would it mess up the ratios of things (so do I need to compensate with the other additions)....would it be sweet enough (we prefer less sweet anyway)..

Has anyone tried anything similar? Any suggestions would be welcome, and thanks!

i've used hersey's special dark cocoa powder, not melting squares, before to turn FV into chocolate -- added just about 1/2 cup sugar extra and got a rich dark chocolate cake..

as long as melted chocolate blends in fully (I always have bad luck of it turning into little flakes), should be just fine.

I also have used the powder cocoa. I'm not sure of the squares.

Good! I just took a yellow butter cake and took out a cup or 2 and added some Hershey dark cocoa to it to make a marble cake. I was hoping that it would be fine!
