I am will be making a cake for next Friday and I am still not sure exactly how I want to do it. The cake will be a computer theme for a co-worker (we are all programmers in this group, so that's why I want the computer) who will be going to another group. I am still debating if I want to do a 3-D cake or if I want to make a laptop or pc from MMfondant and put it on the top of a cake.

My question is - if I make the laptop or pc from MMF, do I need to put something else in the ingredients to make it dry hard? Or would it be the same exact recipe that I would use to cover a cake? Also, how long do they take to dry?

I've only had limited experience with fondant so any advice would be appreciated. I have some time to play with it this weekend to see how it goes. Thanks!

I would recommend putting some gum-tex into the MMF since MMF takes much longer to dry than regular fondant. I have done this several times when using MMF to mold.

Thank you patton78. Is there a standard amount to add or will it tell me on the container?

I have made things liek that with MMF and not adding anything. I do it though in plenty of time like NOW so it has time to dry. It gets very hard in a few days. At night you can help out the drying process by placing it on a cooling rack and sitting it on top of a lamp shade. Cuts the time in half.
