So What Are You Making For Halloween!!??

Well now I have a read problem, I need extra places to send stuff.
My MIL found the picks to go in the cupcakes for the broom cake after I got all excited about a set of mini cutters. She had picked up the cutters at Hobby Lobby and they're different from the Wilton mini set, it's 15 with: a coffin, spider web, crossed bones, skull, ghost, cat, cat head, witch hat, witch on broom, pumpkin, star, tombstone, bat, moon, and haunted house. I was figuring that I would make little candy clay cut-outs and decorate them to put on cupcakes and then she found the cat and spider picks and my son wants those so it looks JUST like the picture in the book. ![]()
Then there are a few other things I could do with the little cutters but there are four people in my house with a birthday the 1st of November so we can't eat all the junk.
My birthday is Nov 1 too. So I have always celebrated my birthiday with halloween. Honeydukes, thanks so much for the web site, I'll be using some of those recipes.
I have had a party the last 3 years since my sons started high school and here's what I make.
The brain jello (from the brain mold)
Witches fingers, but mine are done just by dipping the large pretzel sticks into green chocolate and then adding a slice of almond for the finger nail and then going across each stick with a couple thin lines of green chocolate to minic the wrinkle lines on the finger. The kids love them.
A chocolate 3-D molded haunted house.
I also make the meringue bones but use a different recipe. I'm going to try this one this year (I use the same recipe for making snowflakes and candycanes for Xmas). Kids love them.
In addition we have a pumpkin carving contest with teams, and a pinata filled with not only candy but little things teenagers like, like glow bracelets. When I did adult partys I would put in candy and the little plastic bottles of liquor (like you used to get on the airplane), you should have seen the adults scramble for them!
I have some really cool cookie cutters I got from Sur La Table but I'm horrible at decorating cookies.
If anyone has any other ideas, I would love to hear them. I'm always looking for new ideas!
I would love to make pumpkin-shaped cut-out cookies, that tased like pumpkin.... but haven't quite decided if it think it will work or not and haven't found a recipe anywhere! I have recipes for pumpkin cookies, but they are drop cookies and i really want them to look like pumpkins...lol!
Technically my "Haloween cake" will be made for a friend of mine's birthday. She just got a promotion here at work, and she's "corporate" now, but we still work in the same building. She has this "cackle" that sounds just like a witch, and when she moved into her new office, we got her a broom as a "corporate car" so I'm making a cauldron and a broom cake (I'm thinking about using the sports ball pan . . . one half for the cauldron one half for the broom) I'm going to carve the cauldron out of one half of it, but I'm a little worried about having enough cake to feed everyone . . . maybe I'll put one half of the sports ball on top of a round cake . . . huh, I"m still brainstorming on this one. Does anyone have any ideas about what to put in the cauldron? I'd like it to be edible . . . let me know if there are any ideas? Thanks!

If you aren't totally set on cookies how about a pumpkin cake, bake it 1 inch high and cut out with the pumpkin cutters.
I ♥ that idea! Thanks so much! I think there's a recipe on the back of a spice cake mix that says how to do it! and then i will have tons of pumpking cake balls from the leftovers! I maight have to experimnet in advance.... like tonight as soon as i get home from work!
*nikki is a happy girl*

I saw a cauldron cake on one of the Wilton yearbooks (can't remember which one) and they had all different kinds of green candies in the cauldron. It looked really neat. They had just plain green round hard candies, green M&Ms, and some other green candy (maybe gummy-type?). The whole thing looked like it was brewing and bubbling! HTH ![]()

I think you might be talking about the current yearbook. That one isn't a cake but a shell of candy molded using half the ball pan. It looks like they used gum drops, M&Ms, maybe some skittles and some green hard candies. YOu could probably put some on top of a cake too though. They used small pretzel sticks for the logs underneath and made flames from fondant.
I'm SO excited for Halloween!!! It's my favorite!
We decorate the house amazingly! All the creepy movies come on TV...yay!
This month I'm planning a big shop day at our local cake/candy store to get supplies for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. I'm gonna start making a whole bunch of cookie, cupcake, and cake samples. Try and get a bit of practice in and shop around to local businesses for orders.
Problem is my brain flows with ideas faster than do everything. LOL!
Plus, I really wanna try the broom cake out of this years Wilton book. ![]()
My boyfriend and I love Halloween so I'll be making lots of stuff. Plus, we are having a Halloween party at work so I'll be making treats for that. I'm going to take my jack-o-lantern pan and make bread in it so I can make club sandwiches for the party as well as different cupcakes and probably a giant cookie bouquet. (Hopefully by Halloween it cools off enough I can actually use my oven again! haha)

nikki1201 you're welcome, I thought of it because my MIL makes pumpkin "bars" that have a cake texture in a 12x18 pan so they aren't really thick.
Angelgirl, you're welcome to come use my oven, it's 40 out and rainy, we've had frost several mornings now.
It's terrible because the house gets cold at night but by late afternoon it's warm if the sun's been out so you don't know what to do.
