hiya,

can anyone give me some suggestions on how to make a footballer to put on the top of a cake?

im making a 7" cake with some goal posts made out of straws and a net and i want a little footballer and a ball.

what im worrying about is how are his legs gonna hold him up as unlike an angel or something he wont be wearing a dress that can reach to the floor lol.

does someone have a suggestion of how i can reinforce him?

how about BBQ skewers in legs that go up into body and down into the cake?

What are you making him out of? I made one doing a chocolate transfer and just attached him to a lollipop stick.
You can see it in this photo from my gallery.

i was advised to use petal paste mixed with sugar paste. do you think that would be a good substance to make him from?

gumpaste (petal paste) and fondant (sugar paste) mixed could work very well...

or could just do all out of gumpaste...which will dry very hard and firm

fastest & hardest drying: gumpaste/petal paste

easier to mold: blend simply because has longer "open" time -- time to work w/ before it starts to harden up to point changes can't be made.

i think ill go with the blend then....i need as much time as i can get to get him molded lol. any idea how long he should take to dry? i guess hell be between 2 and 3 inches tall.

can't guess as to time as that's dependent upon how thick, humidity in your area, how moist mix is to start, etc. but I'd allow at least over night if possible to be sure.

depending upon size:
toothpics
BBQ skewers.

and a little dab of "glue"....take some petal paste and dissolve in water. use enough paste to get "thick" liquid consistency.

just for a thougt. maybe you could have the footballer sitting on the top of the cake with hislegs hanging over the sides. would be much more stable.

or if you want him standing make legs earlier.( few days) and add gumtex to your fondant. when the legs are dry built the body on the legs.
