I am doing a basketweave cake for a co- workers birthday. I want to cover the top with flowers and some butterflies , but i am sick of roses! does anyone have any good ideas on how i could make this basketweave cake more interesting? Also i think i may want to use fall colors.
If you are thinking fall colors, how about filling it with fondant fall leaves? You can also have some leaves at the base, and add a fondant or pretzel rake for accent.
Please remember that the recipient is probably not sick of Roses. In fact, they may be her favorite!
(My daughter suggests adding a little fairy!)
Good luck with whatever you decide!
DecoratorJen,
After I wrote the comment , yes I thought about it and your right the recipient probably isn't tired of roses. I guess i am because i do those alot and i am trying to be different from 3 or 4 bakeries in my area.
What about lovely ribbon roses, they look so pretty but are less labour intensive than normal roses.
Please don't consider me to be stupid, but i still have alooot! to learn about cake decorating , but what are ribbon roses?
There are a couple of different ways to do them I think the second link is more in line with what people refer to on this site as Duff Roses. The last one is several links, basically a ribbon rose is a strip of fondant rolled up. But seeing it is better than the explanation!
